Sox Thoughts...

While well on our way to losing tonight, after having a 6-0 lead early on, I have some thoughts about the Red Sox.

We've won five of our last ten games...but it feels like we're rolling downhill fast. The Yankees have won seven of their last ten and seem to be on the uptick. Our once heady lead of five games is now down to two and could drop even lower with a loss tonight. Our pitching staff is miserable. Arroyo has been spotty...so has Papelbon and Gonzalez, and now we have homeless guy in (my less than affectionate name for Remlinger). How quickly we dropped from a 6-0 lead to a 8-12 deficit. The jury is still out on Schilling, who's start on Thursday night produced six runs for the other team. He did go five or six innings, but I'm really starting to feel like the magic is gone.

I am seeing some hopeful things- Trot Nixon off the DL and making plays (a nice catch to end an inning tonight) as well as being hot with the bat (homers tonight and the other night), Manny putting in 110% (turning singles into doubles, diving for extra bases, jumping to catch balls out in left) and some good pitching, but not much.

I hope this is just a slump, because we are losing games against teams that, frankly, suck. We need a spark somewhere to get us going again, get a drive going...get the bats hot and the pitchers hotter, but what that spark is, I don't know...maybe Foulke coming back?

Welcome to the world of blogging. I have sent your URL to my husband and some of his friends. Hopefully instead of screaming and yelling at the T.V., they can vent or celebrate here!

Congratulations!

I was at this game, and beside the pathetic nature of Arroyo blowing the game, (He doesn't seem to have the killer instinct, once he gets a lead he seems to think he can just coast)I'm always struck by the lack of class of some Fenway fans. The mean spirited heckling of the opposition and comments about ethnicity and how a person looks. These kind of fans don't deserve a first class organizion like the Red Sox.

Diandra,

Thanks for the props, although I think you'll find that your husband still will yell at the TV (I do and my wife hates me for it!).

Devin,

Yeah, I have heard that Red Sox fans can be real jerks. I have yet to actually attend a game at Fenway, but I know we have a mixed bag- some bad, but a lot of good fans, including people who bring their kids and families and don't want to hear foul language or ethnic bashing.

Cheers,
Tai
