We were recently treated to a letter on the editorial page of the Herald proclaiming Christopher Columbus a terrorist. In the interests of open mindedness I would like to make a counter claim. I believe Al Gore to be an eco-terrorist.
On the face of it, my claim is as equally absurd as that about Columbus. After all, Al “The Sky is Falling” Gore just won a Nobel Prize for Peace for his Magnus Opus concerning global warming. But at least my claim seems to have the backing of a British High Court Justice.
As a the result of a law suit filed by a British truck driver who did not want his children exposed to Gore’s fabrications, this Justice ruled that there were 11 misstatements of fact (aka lies) in Gore’s documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.” Who would have thought, that inconveniently for Al, polar bears can drown for reasons other than global warming?
The judge ruled that before British school children could be terrorizedand have the living snot scared out of them (my words - not his) by watching this movie, they had to have these 11 misstatements of fact clarified for them. It would appear our British cousins still have something to teach us.
Since Gore won a million bucks along with this Nobel, it appears that the Stockholm committee sells itself pretty cheap. It works out to something less than $100,000 per lie. Er … sorry - per misstatement of fact.

"Gore presents Mt Kilimanjaro's melting snows as proof of global warming. In fact, the snows are vanishing thanks to local factors, including deforestation."
Wow! I'm gonna cut down all my trees and sell my snowblower!
"Gore suggests Greenland's ice could melt, causing a dangerous rise in sea levels. In fact, Greenland's ice won't melt for thousands of years."
There's an independant photographer documenting this melting with a time lapse camera. I saw it on TV and it's unrelated to Al Gore or his movie.
But I'm warming up to all this global warming after all. I kinda like it. My ex who lives near Atlanta could soon be taking showers using bottled water on another guy's dime. Life is good!
For those not aware of it, it's estimated that Atlanta only has a 3 month's supply of water left for 5 million people.

The area now actively melting—approximately half of Greenland’s entire ice cap—is twice what it was in 1992. The amount of fresh water entering the ocean is triple what it was a decade ago.
Last year Greenland lost 52 cubic miles of ice, according to NASA measurements, and the rate is increasing. As the meltwater drips down to the bedrock, it lubricates the movement of ice sheets toward the sea.
The Kangerdlugssuaq Glacier, on the island’s eastern coast, is now moving twice as fast as it was in 2002. To the south of Kangerdlugssuaq, the Helheim Glacier slides about 110 feet a day.
Researchers reported this spring that the speed and intensity generates noticeable earthquakes, or “glacial quakes.” Scientists quietly worry that a dramatic collapse of the ice cap could result in huge amounts of water draining into the ocean.

Veli Kallio, a Finnish scientist, said quakes were triggered because ice had broken away after being fused to the rock for hundreds of years.
Posted by: Dave D at October 18, 2007 08:23 PM
Prof Correll, director of the global change programme at the Heinz Centre in Washington had flown over the Ilulissat glacier and "seen gigantic holes in it through which swirling masses of melt water were falling. These so-called moulins, 10 to 15 metres across, have opened up all over the place. There are hundreds of them."
He said ice-penetrating radar showed that this melt water was pouring through to the bottom of the glacier creating a lake 500 metres deep which was causing the glacier "to float on land.

But Republicans have one or two "experts" who
don't agree with global warming predictions by scientists.
They've testified.
That means global warming isn't really a problem...

The Bushes' ties to John D. Rockefeller and Standard Oil go back 100 years, when Rockefeller made Buckeye Steel Castings wildly successful by convincing railroads that carried their oil to buy heavy equipment from Buckeye. Sam Bush, the current president's other great-grandfather, ran Buckeye Steel Castings. George H. Walker helped refurbish the Soviet oil industry in the 1920s, and Prescott Bush acquired experience in the international oil business as a 22-year director of Dresser Industries. George H.W. Bush, in turn, worked for Dresser and ran his own offshore oil-drilling business, Zapata Offshore. George W. Bush mostly raised money from investors for oil businesses that failed. Currently, the family's oil focus is principally in the Middle East.

High oil prices cause increased taxes and rents. Cities and towns have to heat schools, offices, police and fire stations. They have to fill trucks, buses and snowplows.
Posted by: Dave D at November 5, 2007 09:09 AM
"In fact the real culprit behind these higher oil prices is the Bush Administration, which, thanks to its massive deficits and tax give-aways to the rich and corporations, to its war spending, and to its failure to combat unprecedented and ever-larger trade deficits, has been causing the dollar to plunge in value.
Oil is a commodity and it is priced in dollars. If dollars decline in value, then the price of oil will rise in inverse proportion."

$98.08 a barrel. Come on, is that all you got? Make it $125 a barrel! It'll be a cakewalk for Hillary right into the Whitehouse.

In 1831 Congress passed the "Indian Removal Act" and in 1838 the Cherokees were forced to walk 1000 miles along the "Trail of Tears" to Oklahoma so we could have northwest Georgia for ourselves. About 4000 died. (On 9/11 there were 2974 deaths. just for perspective)
Now in a 'simple twist of fate' the Governor of Georgia, Sonny Perdue, plans to host an event with local religious groups to pray for rain outside the state capitol. Seems almost like a Christian version of the rain dance. We're not so different after all. With all our technology and I-phones we're still doing the rain dance 170 years later.

Dave--
Interesting-not quite my style of protest, but she'll probably reach a lot of people. Meanwhile read this Patrick Buchanan article. As much as I've disagreed with him in the past, he does make a lot of sense. He has quite a few other articles worth reading. Should be easily located via Google.

You gotta use the talent you have. She put her career on the line. People like that get banned because in spite of what O'Reilly claims, there is no liberal media. It's owned by a handful of corporations. They choose what gets played. The proof is that this song is not getting airplay. "Who Knew" is. Even though a fan poll shows that "Dear Mr. President" is more popular. Also nobody is playing Neil Young's "Living with War" or other controversial music by Tom Waits, Pearl Jam, Bright Eyes, Waylon Jennings or Eliza Gilkyson. And on and on.
Pat Buchanan and Colin Powell are amazingly frank. I totally agree. The 9/11 attacks were carried out for $400,000. We've spent hundreds of billions with no end in sight. We've only hurt ourselves. We've spent millions giving towns in places like Iowa homeland security funds. Nobody is gonna blow up cornfields in Iowa! The higher our debt, the less secure we are because we don't have the means to conduct another response.

Nice to know 100% of Republicans aren't marching in lockstep towards Middle East apocalypse. Ron Paul too is a pretty brave guy. Unfortunately some of his other positions are nuts... He seems to realize this though. His ads have people saying, "I don't agree with Ron Paul's other positions"(!) Anyway, I'm sure a lot of people want to drag Paul, Powell and Buchanan down to Guantanamo or some foreign "torture proxy" for a little "treason deprogramming".

I like that Ron Paul shakes up the other Republicans at the debates. He forces them to confront constitutional issues. I agree with him on foreign policy. We have too many troops in too many countries. 393,569 in 32 countries. Then when there's a hurricane or an oil spill we're shorthanded.
But I disagree with him on health care. He wants to have no health care insurance public or private. Everyone would pay out of their own pocket.
Heart bypass surgery can cost $25,000 to $75,000.
"The money in medicine is in cardiac surgery," says James Hinton, chief executive of Presbyterian Health Services. "Cardiology is unquestionably profitable. That's what they're going after."

Hey if you're lucky you can hope Montel's discount drug bus comes to your state and parks 100 miles away. But that would be a long walk for my 84 year old mother. And if you had to choose between heating oil and cable TV you might not even know about it.

Industry players spoke behind the scenes about prices going up to $125 or even $150, said Kuwait-based consultant Usameh Jamali.
A $30 change in the price of oil is attributed to political uncertainties. "If President Bush changes the rhetoric and says the oil consuming countries and the producers should work jointly together to find a solution, then prices would fall by $30," he added.
"Let me stress - I don't know how many times I have said this - Opec isn't in favour of high oil prices. Opec is not in favour of low oil prices. We would like to see a stable market," Abdallah Salem El-Badri, the Opec secretary general said.
Yvo de Boer, the executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, told Opec ministers that every nation in the world had to start making changes to bring down carbon emissions and the attitude of "business as usual" could not continue
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change made up of over 180 countries warned of dire consequences.

Pink's "Dear Mr. President" made Vh1's Top 20 list. It's currently number 16.
At an OPEC meeting Saturday, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez warned that oil prices will go even higher still if the U.S. even considers an attack against his country or Iran.
"If the United States attempts the madness of invading Iran or attacking Venezuela again, the price of oil is probably going to reach $200, not just $100," Chavez said.
"We are witnessing constant threats against Iran. OPEC should strengthen itself and demand respect for the sovereignty of our nations, if the world wants a guaranteed supply of oil."
Think about that when you fill up at the pump, try to pay for your heat and when you vote next time. Last sunday there were gas lines in Portsmouth just to save 6c.
Imagine if there was an actual shortage. There would also be rationing. People who missed out on the 70s, you're in for a real treat. It wasn't like "That 70's Show"

Karl Rove now says Congress pushed the US to war in Iraq prematurely.
Bush really wanted to take the time to build a coalition and let the
inspectors finish their job! Congress wouldn't let him do that!! Bad Congress!
Giuliani put the chauffering of his mistress on the expense account!!!
I lived in NY when he was mayor. Wait until you hear about the
other things he did... The man is a corrupt gangster.
Gov. Huckabee facing tremendous pressure from right wing groups
(and letters in his files from the man's victims) secures a convicted
rapists' release from jail. [Later he lies about it.] The rapist goes
on to kill and rape again. Why was this a right wing cause?
A cousin of Bill Clinton was one of the rape victims.
Bush talks about WWIII with Iran, then lies about intelligence from the NIE.
Maybe he learned about it last thursday, maybe last summer, but they
didn't give him any details...
The NIE now attacked as being a source of disinformation by Republicans!
Bad NIE!!!
Its report was a conspiracy to make the president look bad!
Spin, corruption, politically motivated bad judgement, lies and more spin.
And---people are continuing to burn flags all over the USA.
We need an anti-flag burning amendment!
What a great time to be a Republican!
