It’s still early, Democrat Presidential hopeful (with emphasis on the word hopeful) Rep. Dennis Kucinich has come up with the most provocative ad of the campaign season so far.
Consider the context: Gov. Bill Richardson has the funniest with his resume ad and Sen. Chris Dodd has the most substantial with his energy/global warming ad. On the GOP side, Gov. Mitt Romney has run ads that sell him like the best laundry detergent around (“stronger than dirt” — or at least more muscular than Bush when it comes to a military revival bar none and a dream to double the size of the Gitmo prison of no exit.)
Kucinich, who has a dedicated band of supporters but has yet to register much in early season polls, has released a political ad with zero subtlety. His “No blood for oil” ad should generate buzz and outrage the Iraq war’s supporters -- especially those on their fifth or sixth rationalization to justify George W. Bush’s idea of spreading democracy through bloodshed and carnage.
See for yourself and wonder if you’ll look at the gas pump the same way for a while. The verbally silent ad shows a gas pump ringing up the various costs of Bush’s folly-- including hefty record profits for oil companies. It will no doubt be dismissed by the Beltway pundiburo as so much paranoid ranting. But given the reality of permanent superduper military bases being constructed in Iraq, the largest and most costly embassy in human history being built in Baghdad, and Bush administration talk of a really really long war, perhaps this paranoia has some justification that the establishment dandies don’t won’t to confront -- like the reality of American power that few care to discuss in polite company.
