NH Great Debate: Democrats' turn

8:45 How do you define rich? asked a self-employed computer consultant concerned about taxes. A question I've never heard.

8:35 Darfur. Force or no force, boycott the Olympics, to stop the genocide? "America no longer has moral authority to lead," Edwards said. Interesting tenure and connections dealing with the question.

8:27 Wow. Most reasonable and rational abridged analysis about Iran by Joe Biden. Addresses political context, weaknesses and lunacy of the Neocon bomb-Iran crowd.

8:25: Best Bush administration bashing quip of the night so far: Sending VP Dick Cheney on diplomatic missions, Clinton said, is "hardly diplomatic in my view."

8:15 Jennie LeBranch, a husband in Iraq, asked: what would you do to stop operations and rebuild military? Very unconvincing replies.

Ready for voter questions...

8:05 p.m. High gas prices? Investigation of oil and gas companies? Edwards suggested..."we need an Apollo program" Richardson said for energy...

8 p.m. How would you use Bill Clinton? Repubs should be asked Tuesday: how would you use ex-President George W. Bush? Bet there would be some interesting answers. Roving ambassador would not be a likely one.

7:53 p.m. Radioactive issue: they all danced around Gay marriage issue..talk about don't ask, don't propose

7:50 p.m. While Edwards and Obama debated the meaning of mandatory and Bill Richardson ignored how to pay for universal health care, Dennis Kucinich had the best, if not politically, impractical answer about health care with his single payer proposal...interesting that he mentioned 14,000 doctors who supported it...wonder if support is that deep.

7:40 p.m. Imagine that: Wolf Blitzer with his idiotic "Should English be the official language?" question.was a nod to the know-nothing crowd. Obama smartly called him on it.

7:25 p.m.
Plenty of Iraq, more Iraq and terrorism...lots about the past..."I should have never voted for this war," said John Edwards...and plenty of subtle jabs...Joe Biden, the most strident and pragmatic about stopping the war...Hillary Clinton has gone wonkish about the rationales about the war...I'm sure that most of those on stage would love to vote Mike Gravel off the island...he's a righteous wild card...almost 1/2 hour in and finally a question about immigration. Ironically, this is more talk about Iraq than most Dems have to do on the campaign trail...it's a given

(First post)

I had planned to be posting from the site of tonight Democrat debate in Manchester...but, alas, some unwelcome physical issues have kept me home bound for the evening (hint: I will spend much time stretched out on living room floor) so I will be watching and posting (hopefully with some entertaining insight) from home...

One of the aspects I will miss far more than sitting in the media horde center (watching on a bigger screen than I have at home) is singin' in the rain with the various candidate supporters and advocacy groups...in the past few days I've been cotnacted by folks wanting to talk about torture (not good), strong education policy (good I presume), federal budget priorities (less Pentagon waste and more social spending zeal), a pot legalization group (no free smaples) and someone who believes that the Dems should embrace gay marriage and not "chicken**** civil unions." Fat chance on radioactive gay marriage issue.

I was asked by a local voter in Portsmouth yesterday what if anything I expected from the Dem and Repub public group therapy sessions: I have no expectations for excitement but I do suspect some tension about Iraq and expect Joe Biden and John Edwards to possible set the edgy tone...
