I received this message from a reader in Kansas who likely hasn't voted for Sen. Sam Brownback -- or certianly won't be supporting the Republican's interesting (as in we don't see him much here) bid for the White House.
"Sam Brownback plays dress-up in Iowa while Kansas floods," said reader Glen Foss from Parsons.
According to the Mason City, Iowa Globe Gazette, while thousands of homes and businesses in southeast Kansas were under water, "U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas, put on a hard hat and safety goggles to tour the Lehigh Cement Company plant in Mason City on Tuesday while on the presidential campaign trail."
Following that, Senator Brownback toured the Pella Window factory in Story City, Iowa - a tour that wasn't even open to the media. (Maybe he's remodeling his house)
The Senator's schedule for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Iowa included book signings and appearances in numerous parades. (His full schedule for these three days is on his campaign web site.)
All apparently more important to the Senator than the devastation in Kansas from the massive flooding and the Coffeyville oil spill. All apparently more important than seeing the full extent of the flooding first hand - devoting his time to immediate relief efforts - and being here to show support and comfort for the thousands affected.
Since the Senator is finally scheduled to tour the area today (July 5th), one can only assume that he had nothing else on his schedule. (And indeed, his web site shows nothing on the schedule after July 4th.)
A little late? Was the Senator's Iowa trip a Remarkable Journey of [Faith and] Compassion? This man doesn't deserve to be our Senator - never mind your President.
