All She Wears – a clothing and accessories boutique in downtown Hampton – offers an opulent feel with distinctive and unexpected finds. Sheila Fleming says that after 20 years in the corporate world, a longtime love of fashion fueled her to open her own boutique over five years ago.
The shop features everything a woman may need for office apparel and casual or sophisticated (and sexy!) evening wear. There’s a wide selection of beautiful hand-picked pieces of jewelry, Italian handbags and more. My first thought was: It’s refreshing to have a shop that caters to women’s maturity, style and figure. Hence a line of jeans called Not Your Daughter’s Jeans.
And if you’re the kind of girl who can use a little help choosing the right outfit for a wedding, date night or just updating your wardrobe – don’t fear, Sheila is here. She loves to spend one-on-one time helping her customers find that perfect outfit, with just the right accessories. And she knows how to throw in a little glitz into the mix, trust me.
Runway Ready had a chance to drop by the boutique and get the grand tour. Here’s my interview with the very down-to-earth Sheila Fleming, owner of All She Wears.
Runway Ready: Please tell us a little about yourself.
Sheila: I have an associate’s degree in business. I reside at Seabrook Beach, N.H. And I’m married with one son, who lives in Seattle, Wash.
Runway: What’s was the inspiration behind opening All She Wears?
Sheila: After a career as an assistant controller of a big company, I became a buyer and manager of a boutique in Massachusetts. Then, after working six years in the business, I decided that it was time to open my own store. I have always loved fashion. I really wanted to cater to the distinctive woman.
I did not like shopping at chain stores and knew many women like myself who wanted something unique and different. I’m a resident of Seabrook Beach and when I saw the storefront in Hampton became available, I knew that it was the right time.
I’ve just always loved fashion. I am and always will be a clotheshorse. After spending time in a boutique, I knew that this was more than a passion.
Runway: What can customers expect when they walk into All She Wears?
Sheila: When a customer walks into All She Wears, I want him or her to find unique items both in clothing and accessories that he or she will not find anywhere else. I want them to feel comfortable and relaxed, and know that they have walked into a friendly atmosphere.
My goal is to have something for everyone. I am grateful to have many repeat customers. I feel that I know their wants and desires in clothing and accessories. I want my male clientele to feel comfortable that I can help them make a selection for their wives or companions. All She Wears caters to women 40 and over.
Runway: What do you look for when buying clothing for your shop?
Sheila: I always look for something different – a little glitz, a little glamour. Quality is very important and I always try to purchase clothing made in the U.S. or Canada.
Runway: What are some of your bestsellers? What are some of your personal favorites from the boutique?
Sheila: Jewelry and accessories are among my bestsellers. I hand pick all my jewelry from New York City. I make several trips a year because the pieces move so quickly. Also NYDJ and Spanx are great sellers.
Runway: With the always fast-changing fashion trends, how do you stay on top of what’s going to be hot from season to season?
Sheila: I try to purchase items that my customers will want. I cater to the customer who is looking for traditional style with a little flair. They want to be able to wear these clothes for more than one season and I think of that every time I buy for the store. Many times you can achieve the latest fashion, not by purchasing a new wardrobe, but simply by adding “trendy” affordable accessories.
Runway: Fall is just around the corner. What can we expect to see for fall fashion pieces?
Sheila: You will see vibrant colored jackets, sweaters and holiday wear. Animal prints continue to be the rage. Accessories will be bright and dazzling.
Runway: What is a key piece every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Sheila: Every woman should have a classic black skirt and classic black trousers. With those two items, a woman can go anywhere at anytime and be appropriately dressed in style. I prefer the classic, timeless style. I cannot say that I favor one particular era, but I do favor that classic look of Chanel, Lauren or Polo.
Sheila also wants to remind her customers about the terrific sale rack in front of the store that always has great deals – especially this time of year when she’s making room for all the fall stock.

((Sixth in a series about Project Runway, Season 5 by Mary Salmon))
NEXT EPISODE ON BRAVO WED., 8/27, 9:00PM EST
GUEST STARRING CELEBRITY STYLIST RACHEL ZOE
The video posted above is the beginning of the sixth episode of the fifth season of Project Runway - it is absolutely worth watching for the introduction of all the drag queens! (You may want to fast-forward to the 2:45 minute mark.) The challenge was for each designer to create a look for a drag queen - a design that suits their persona. Chris March advises the designers that "fashion is all about putting on a show. So, be as theatrical and over-the-top as you can be."
The three designers who came out on top were Korto, Joe and Terri. I will admit that even though Joe's design did meet the criteria of the challenge more completely than Korto's design, when it came down to the decision between the two of them, I was rooting for Korto; I just don't like Joe, and despite this winning design, will still not be rooting for him... Terri's geisha-on-acid inspired design, I do believe, was the fiercest we have seen yet this season!
(Left - Right: Korto's design, Joe's design, Terri's design)
To his credit, Joe's Love Boat-inspired pink catsuit, with the all-important lifesaver belt that serves a dual-purpose, was a fantastic design, and as you can view in the video below, his model completely worked it on the runway; you could tell Varla loved it. I would have liked to have seen Leanne's design break into the top three - it was futuristic, geometric and certainly appropriate for a drag queen. Sweetie wore Korto’s design down the runway and the detachable skirt was a nice touch. I also loved the crazy, spirally pieces on the shoulder. Korto has experience designing for plus-sized women, and that skill translated well for this challenge. (Sweetie is also a fun one to watch on the runway – next week we’ll be back to the tall, thin girls who are competing for the spread in Elle Magazine.)
Runway show starts at 2:15:
I was surprised that Blayne did not end up in the bottom three, as his design malfunctioned on the runway with a sagging wing. (I have a friend in New York City who reported to me from reliable sources that Miss Understood hated it, too.) Okay, part of me will miss Blayne, but the other half of me is wondering what's taking him so long to get kicked off!
RuPaul was the guest judge, but not a particularly noteworthy guest judge. The judges agreed that Keith’s design was messy, and even his fellow designers are whispering behind his back about his constant use of fabric swatches. RuPaul, however, had not seen Keith’s other designs and was a fan of this look. Daniel lost because he designed a cocktail dress (again - you may recall he did the same for the Olympics challenge) and not a look appropriate for a drag queen.

(Left to Right: Keith's design, Daniel's design, Jerrell's design)
The judges felt that Jerrell's look was too tame for a drag queen. Ironically, he's been too over-the-top on most other challenges to date. I do feel that kicking Daniel off was the right call. The hardest part of the show for me to watch was Hedda Lettuce being mean to Suede; I’m so glad they were able to make it work on the runway! The scenes from the next episode are intriguing... all I can gather from it is the designers will probably be designing with material they are not used to working with, and something very heavy-duty, but that's just my best guess.

I’ve been a fan of the Carlisle fashion collection for a few years now and look forward to each new season’s line. Christy Hobin will be introducing the new Carlisle fall fashion collection this September and of course, it’s fabulous!

The Carlisle collection is crafted for the woman who cares deeply about style and quality, combines the best of enduring and modern designs from Europe and America.

Whether it’s functional or purely for fashion, these are timeless looks that are here to stay. With preppy plaids, stylish blazers, wool A-line skirts, sweater dresses, belted jackets with styles that easily translate you from office apparel to your evening event. And color should make an appearance in every wardrobe with shades mixed with blues, cherry reds, bronze, bright yellows and sophisticated animal prints.

Consultant Christy Hobin gets to know each of her client's needs and preferences, arranges for private showings of the newest designs each season, and helps each client to select beautiful clothing in combinations that reflect that client's personal style. Her focus is on each client and each article of clothing—one person at a time, one piece at a time.

Christy will show from September 6th through September 11th with open house hours on Saturday from 10:00am - 6:00pm and Sunday from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm. If you miss it, don’t worry you can set up an appointment for a showing.

In fashion news-

Singer Janet Jackson has partnered with Australian fashion designer Bruno Schiav to launch a line of lingerie called Pleasure Principle. (Her 1987 tune, "Pleasure Principle," inspired the name.)
The under $40 collection — featuring Chantilly lace and satin and rich colors like burgundy — offers various bra styles (demi cups to full coverage), with sizes from 32A to 44G.
"There's something for every woman, and that's very important to us," Jackson said at a press conference. "I've always hated when lingerie is uncomfortable, so the fit and comfort was key."
The singer says she was hands-on during designing — sometimes working until 4 a.m.
Said Jackson, "People have come to me with other ideas, but lingerie is a passion for me, and just like music and acting, I can't do it unless I put 100% into it."
Her line hits mass retailers in November. Source Us Weekly.

NEXT EPISODE ON WED. NIGHT, 8/20, AT 9PM EST - DRESSING UP DRAG QUEENS, GUEST STARRING RUPAUL
((Fifth in a series about Project Runway, Season 5 by Mary Salmon))
The fifth episode of Project Runway left me disappointed on a few levels. The best design (in both my and Heidi Klum's opinion) did not win the challenge nor the guest appearance on Lipstick Jungle; I believe this is because Brooke Shields liked the winning design by Keith and Kenley more, and I have a feeling that Brooke had the final say. The designers each had thirty minutes to sketch a design, and then each had the opportunity to sit down and pitch their idea to Brooke, who chose six designs to move forward; the designers were paired up with partners (the other six designers whose sketches Brooke did not choose) with varying degrees of success.
I don't watch Lipstick Jungle, but my friends who do watch told me that the design Brooke chose did not suit her character as well as Stella and Jerrell's design would have. "I loved it… when it came out, I was like, ‘Boom!’,” said Heidi. The other reason for my disappointment in this episode was the judges' decision to kick Kelli off the show. I love both Blayne and Daniel for different reasons, but I do believe that either one deserved the boot before Kelli, based on their work from all episodes we have seen thus far. Kelli won the very first challenge! She may not have won the big prize on the final episode, but I really enjoyed her personality and watching her on the show; I would love to have seen her final collection. Granted, the look she created for Brooke's character was, as Michael Kors put it, "Slutty, slutty, slutty...," but was it worse than Blayne's design? Keep in mind they were told to design a day to night look for a high-powered, working woman. I just don't think the shorts fit the challenge's criteria. Daniel was such an apathetic helper to Kelli; it was infuriating! I think partner challenges are innately unfair, but it did make for good television as we watched the tensions rise between all the pairings of designers.

(Left - Right: Terri and Joe's design; Jerrell and Stella's design; Keith and Kenley's winning design)
Runway show starts at 3:33 minute mark:
Kelli and Daniel's design and Blayne and Leanne's design both came under the judges' scrutiny. I wish they had broadcast more of the conversation that led to Kelli going home; although her reaction was that "she would rather go out being herself than trying to be someone she's not." Project Runway goes on, and I'll get over this very poor decision, hopefully by the next episode, which is about designing for drag queens. As my friend Kim said, "I'm not looking forward to that one; I like when they make dresses and more normal clothes." I tend to agree, but of course I'll have to watch, as I am now a Project Runway addict and feel like I know these people just a little too well...
Up until this point I had not been a fan of Stella at all, but you could tell by their design that Jerrell and Stella were able to work well as partners and truly collaborate, with remarkable results. I can picture Brooke wearing that design much more easily than I can envision her in the winning design, but I dwell, and Brooke thought there was "a lot going on."
(Left - Right: Blayne and Leanne's design; Kelli and Daniel's design)
"I at least took a risk, even if it was too hoochie-mama." –Kelli

Coveting that new purple Burberry trench or those gorgeous deep berry-red Christian Louboutin pumps? The hottest colors for fall, purple and red, are causing fashion forward women across America to flock to the racks to buy the newest pieces. Don’t have endless funds?
You too can add these hot colors to your fall wardrobe for less than $10 with fashionable eyeglass frames from EyeBuyDirect.com. With EyeBuyDirect.com, shoppers can get stylish prescription eyeglass frames for as little as $7.95 (or designer frames from Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Armani and Diesel for as little as $99.95).
What’s more, they can virtually try on any pair via the site’s unique EyeTry feature, which allows consumers to upload their pictures with a variety of designer frames. That’s means getting an opinion from a spouse, parent or friend – or even a complete stranger on the site’s Wall of Frame social network.

EyeBuyDirect is pleased to announce a new cost-cutting technology aimed to allow people to own multiple styles of eye wear for all occasions from athletic sports goggles to designer wear at an extremely low cost. While most retailers use similar techniques in the actual creation of the eye glasses Eye Buy Direct has developed a streamline process that results in low cost that they then pass on to the consumer.
The process of shopping for a pair of glasses can be intimidating for both first time customers and customers looking to replace their old pair. Many people are often concerned with the way these functional accessories alter the look of their face. Because the price of a pair of glasses generally runs into hundreds of dollars, customers are only willing to shell out the cost of a single pair.
This one pair of glasses has to therefore be an all-rounder in terms of style. The customer must feel that the glasses fit their personality so that they feel comfortable wearing them after paying so much. Eye Buy Direct, after recognizing this trend, has cunningly developed a way to sell eye glasses at a price that beats virtually all of its competitors
Eye Buy Direct's main advantage is definitely its cost savings which they pass on to the customer. It also benefits from its ability to sell online, which gives them the potential to reach all shoppers across the globe with a computer and an internet connection. Shoppers will find that Eye Buy Direct's choice of inexpensive eye wear reduces the stress which is often associated with purchasing eye glasses.

Instead of worrying about searching for the perfect pair of glasses and thinking of how easily glasses tend to damage while shelling out over a hundred dollars, Eye Buy Direct creates a low stress shopping experience. Due to these low prices, the customer need not worry about expensive repairs or be pressured into finding the perfect pair of glasses that is conservative enough for the workplace while also maintaining their personal sense of style.
With Eye Buy Direct's low prices customers can easily purchase any pair of glasses for more than one occasion for the same price as one pair at most other stores.
Most eye glasses retailers are so far down the value chain that the end customer has to pay a premium for the product, suffering from markups which occur at each stop along the way. Eye Buy Direct has bypassed this process and has developed a relationship directly with the frame manufacturers.
The customer benefits from this relationship because there are fewer markups. This is a simple concept yet one that is very important to Eye Buy Direct's business model. Visit www.eyebuydirect.com

Breast cancer happens when cells in the breast or a tumor, grow out of control and damages nearby tissue. In women, the most common and fatal type of cancer is breast cancer.
Detection
There are often no symptoms in the early stages. Women should be aware of the screening recommendations and follow them. There are varieties of symptoms that may appear as the tumor grows such as:
- The breast changing in size or shape
- Breast skin becomes pitted or ridged
- Thickening or lump in the underarm or breast
- Discharge from nipple or the nipple turns inward
- Skin on the breast becomes red or scales
If you have any of these symptoms, have yourself examined by a medical professional. This does not mean you have cancer but you defiantly want to have this checked.
Before the age of twenty, is very rare to get it and not often diagnosed in women less than twenty-five years old. The chances of contacting climbs steadily after 25 and peaks around menopause age in women. It increases less after menopause but as they age, the risk to older women gradually increases.
Risk Factors
Nobody really knows what causes this cancer. Some of the elements that are thought to increase the risk are:
Gender: There are more cases of women than men
Weight: Overweight women are at higher risk
Age: From 25 to menopause, the chances increases.
Children: If a woman has not had a child, or had a child after 30
Family History: Women that have a family member that have or had it are at risk.
Male Breast Cancer
Yes, it really does happen. It is certainly not as common as in women but approximately one to 1.5% happens to men. Older men most often diagnosed with it and are between sixty and seventy years old. If a man has had previous exposure to radiation, such as for cancer treatment, their risk increases. Approximately 20% of men with a mother, sister or other close female relatives with breast cancer are certainly at higher risk. Some of the symptoms in men includes swelling or a breast lump, retracted nipple or discharge and scaling or redness of the breast skin or nipple.
Statistics
The statistics are frightening. Each and ever year, over 182,000 women and 16,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer. Over 400 men and 43,300 women will die from this terrible disease. During their lifetime, one woman out of eight has or will get breast cancer. Most people have family or friends that have or had breast cancer. Always give them your support and encouragement.

((Fourth in a series about Project Runway, Season 5 by Mary Salmon))
WATCH WEDNESDAY NIGHT, 8/13, ON BRAVO AT 9PM EST - BROOKE SHIELDS IS THE GUESTJUDGE
CHALLENGE: DESIGN FOR A HIGH-POWERED, PROFESSIONAL WOMAN
When Heidi tells the designers that Tim Gunn is waiting downstairs to tell them about their next challenge, Jerrell Scott says, “You know, I really don’t have any idea where we’re gonna be going; I just really hope it has nothing to do with female wrestlers.” I think we all echo your sentiment on that one, Jerrell, but this challenge was indeed the most athletic design challenge yet this season – creating a look for the United States’ Olympic team to wear at the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
The designers are not told what the challenge is until they arrive at The Armory Track and Field Center. “We pass a hospital, and I get really, really nervous because the last thing I want to design is nurses’ uniforms or scrubs. Although, I could design a good straitjacket,” Kelli Martin comments on the ride.
Once informed of the challenge, the designers sought inspiration from photos at the Armory – this does lead to several designers creating retro-looks for the runway; there were not enough fresh, new looks. The top three designs were the most fashion-forward of the bunch. Well, at least Terri’s and Korto’s designs were. I loved Suede’s little skirt, but he didn’t quite make the cut.

Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno is the guest judge and explains to the designers the importance of the opening ceremony, “It’s basically the Olympians’ version of the catwalk… unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in my life… you walk in with honor… you’re representing your county… it’s dear to my heart.”
You can tell by the expressions on their faces, that several of the designers are not thrilled with this challenge. Poor Daniel… “I’m into high-end glamour. This has nothing to do with what I’m really used to… it’s just all very confusing.” As you can tell by his design, he really didn’t understand the challenge, though I do wonder if Kenley had not discouraged him from adding the red bolero, would he have snuck through to the next round unscathed, rather than ending up in the bottom three? She said it was too "Wonder Woman," but I think Daniel could have used that to his advantage. The judges and Tim both mention that an Olympic athlete is as close to a super-hero as we have! Michael Kors asks of Daniel's cocktail dress, “She’s from the Republic of Cocktail Land?” and says, “Well, if her sport is drinking, it’s a good dress.”

"It's like they heard the challenge in another language..." - Michael Kors
Joe is too cocky right off the bat with his “sportswear background” and his oh-so-inspired skort. The skort was too long, as Michael Kors pointed out. Maybe Joe just gets on my nerves – like when he threw a hissy fit because Daniel was working on the machine he had been using? Or maybe he bugs me because he was so over-confident.
It did crack me up when Terri caught Keith stealing the fabric she had selected. “A sister gotta keep one eye open; that’s all I’m saying.” I think she should have won the challenge, but I did also like Korto’s winning look and use of lightweight leather. Maybe if Terri had lost the scarf – in my opinion the design was perfect without the scarf, and a bit “too much” (and less sporty) with it.
Jennifer couldn’t get past being girly and feminine, and that isn’t who she was designing for. I’m glad Daniel gets another chance, but he better get it together soon because right now, he’s losing points fast. I can't say that I'll miss Jennifer and the "surrealism" of her designs... did anyone see anything surreal in ANY of her designs? Jerrell's design was over the top, and not at all athletic, but he skates on to next week.
This challenge meant a lot to Korto, as America has truly been a place of new opportunities for her. She was born in Liberia, West Africa and in 1990 there was a civil war; her family had to either leave the county or stay to be raped, tortured, or even executed. America is now her home, "A place where I have this chance to actually fulfill my dream..." When she is declared the winner she says, "I feel so good. They loved my outfit. It was just confirmation that I am good enough. I'm worthy of this. It's about freaking time."
Suede, Blayne, Leanne, and yes, even Stella, deserve honorable mentions on this challenge. I actually do think Stella deserved to move on to the next round. She described her design as “space age and modern,” and although her use of black was questionable, her design was one I would have chosen, were I an Olympian, over several of the others. Kenley’s design would be a great outfit to stroll around the city in, but it wasn’t suitable for an opening ceremony. The same could be said of Suede’s look, but I do love that skirt!

Try one of my favorites..
Banana Sour Cream Bread

Ingredients:
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup full-fat cream cheese
4 eggs, room temperature
3/4 cup Splenda
1/2 cup Erythritol
2 teaspoons Brown Sugar Twin
1 3/4 cups almond flour
1/4 cup vital wheat gluten
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 2.5-oz jar Gerber Banana Baby Food
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon banana flavor extract
Preheat oven to 325°F.
Cream butter, cream cheese, pourable Splenda, Diabetisweet (or erythritol), and Brown Sugar Twin well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Set aside.
In separate large bowl, blend almond flour, Vital Wheat Gluten, baking powder, and salt.
In small bowl mix baby food, sour cream, and banana extract. Add to butter/cream cheese mixture and beat well.
Mix wet and dry ingredients with large spoon or mixer until fully incorporated. Pour into greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pan and bake for approximately 50 minutes (oven times may vary — don't overbake!)
45 grams of carbs in entire recipe.
Makes 12 slices: 3.75 net grams carbs per slice.
Optional:
Like a sugary topping? For an extra few grams for the loaf (almost doesn't change the amount per slice), sprinkle a bit of Erythritol over the top of the bread in its last 20 minutes of baking.
Walnuts or pecans can be added to this recipe as well. About 1/2 cup broken nut pieces added just before adding to loaf pan to bake works nicely.

Attention shoppers: Ever wished you could help ease global economic inequities? While shopping? Well, head on down to Fa La Lo at 10 Ladd St. in Portsmouth. Owners Liz Wright and Scott Segee opened the shop in May, selling only fair trade and locally made products.
When I popped in recently, I received a lovely greeting from sales associate Phyllis Gordon, who gets my vote as one of the sweetest women I’ve ever met. Phyllis taught me a bit about how fair trading helps poor craftspeople in Third World countries and our own local economy.
Fa La Lo deals with a number of agencies that import work from Third World nations to the United States – organizations such as Ten Thousand Villages, World of Good and Handcrafted Justice. These groups work with artisans in more than 30 countries to bring you fair-trade jewelry, crafts, home decor, gifts and more.
Fa La Lo’s mission is helping people who wouldn’t otherwise have an outlet for their products; it will only carry items whose creators are paid a living wage. Most are women who become more self-sufficient, independent and often learn to read and write through these organizations.
Phyllis showed me many interesting pieces from these artisans – beautiful artwork, clothing and crafts – and introduced me to Chester the gargoyle (Phyllis says he loves it there, but would be equally happy in someone’s home).
There are amazing purses made from recycled potato chip bags in the Philippines, recycled magazines cut and coiled into beautiful serving plates, gorgeous bamboo fruit bowls and the cutest little straw handbags and wallets made from banana leaves in Vietnam – even a handmade trinket box crafted out of an actual orange in Bolivia.
Phyllis says she can imagine the artisan sitting in the sun working hard on the colorful, oversized serving plate she showed me from Uganda.
Fa La Lo also has a great selection of handmade and polished jewelry from local crafters and from South America.
My favorite piece in the shop had to be the embroidered bags made by uneducated women from Afghanistan who had to flee to Pakistan; these craftswomen learned how to read and write, and actually signed their name to each bag.
Phyllis says they’ve only been there since May, but are making a big impact on the market. Many people stop in and say they love the shop. Phyllis says she enjoys working here – and it shows.
So stop by Fa La Lo at 10 Ladd St. in Portsmouth to see these amazing crafts and more. And please say hi to Phyllis for me.

Lauren Conrad has designs on an Emmy -- or at least designing a dress for next month's awards ceremony.
The star of MTV's reality hit "The Hills" will be creating a "couture red carpet gown" for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, the TV academy said Wednesday.
The dress -- or maybe dresses, if Conrad designs more than one -- will be worn by the "trophy girls" who tote Emmy statuettes on-stage for presenters to hand to winners, the academy said. The trophy bearers also walk the pre-show red carpet.
Reality TV already has a big presence at the ceremony, with emcee duties given over to five reality series hosts, including Ryan Seacrest of "American Idol" and Tom Bergeron of "Dancing With the Stars."
Conrad, who pronounced herself "excited" by the academy's request, also managed to put in a plug for her clothing line.
"I will be doing a red carpet look that still reflects the simple classic design of the Lauren Conrad Collection but with a black tie twist," she said in a statement.
How real Conrad's design credentials are remains a question for some in the industry. When she made her debut in March at Mercedes-Benz L.A. Fashion Week, mainstays such as Sue Wong told The Associated Press, "I don't believe in reality TV stars turning into designers."
Conrad said then she understands such skepticism.
"I will probably never have the respect I want in the fashion industry, but I can work hard every day to try and prove myself," Conrad, who has trained at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, told the AP.
The Emmy ceremony airs Sept. 21 on ABC.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -AP writer Solvej Schou in Los Angeles contributed to this report.

Tomorrow night (Wed., 8/6) on Bravo at 9pm EST - The designers take another field trip. The episode is titled "Rings of Glory" and from the preview it looks like the challenge is to design some sort of Olympics getup - maybe an outfit for the opening ceremony?
The challenge of week three was to create a look inspired by “New York at Night.” The designers found inspiration in a wet, battered magazine on the ground; a planter grate around a tree; clocks; and various photographs they took, some more abstract than others. Sandra Bernhardt was a guest judge.
((Third in a series about Project Runway, Season 5 by Mary Salmon))
On top:
Kenley – Uck. Ok, I get it. I understand on some level why the judges gave her the win, but gack, yack, eew. The neck looked so uncomfortable. I have always hated shoulder pads, and I also hate the way the fabric seems to come two points over the shoulders, pads or not. Kenley executed her design well, but it did not seem to jibe with her photograph, which was part of the challenge & which Leanne’s design did perfectly.

Leanne - I really liked this skirt and shell; I would wear it in a heartbeat. It looked to me like it just came off the rack of the designer section of Harrods or Selfridges. Black may not have been the most exciting choice of color, but let’s face it, women love black. Once a friend of mine commented about how so many women were wearing black dresses at a wedding. I replied, “It’s because black is slimming,” not as a catty remark, just stating the fact, but of course I’ve never lived that comment down… I honestly think this design was the winner, the most NYC at night. Someone just needed to hand the model a martini. Maybe it’s because I would never wear Kenley’s design that I feel this way, but admittedly, Kenley has been the stronger player in the previous two challenges.
Terri – She created a very strong, but also a very feminine look. I liked that her design really stood apart from the others and looked so comfortable, sexy and flowing.
The bottom three:
Emily – Well, at least she liked her dress… without that awkwardly placed, totally unflattering ruffle, she may have had a chance.
Keith – Although his dress actually resembled his inspiration, who really wants to wear newsprint? It struck me as some sort of flapper-dress gone wrong and failed to flatter any part of the body.
Jennifer – This look was too matronly; it also reminder me of what Hugh Hefner’s maid might wear. It could have been a cute maternity sailing outfit, maybe… The proportions of Jennifer’s design created a bulky feeling and the hemming was a mess.
Joe’s dress was certainly a reflection of his photo – the most literal of all the designers, but nothing new, nothing exciting, and nothing that made me think WOW or this is what NYC at night is about; it was just boring. I also didn’t think this was a great week for Kelli. The top was just horrid and I think I was annoyed that she seemed so very happy with it; it looked more like something Stella would design. I'm not even going to discuss that one-trick pony this week.
I bet a lot of people hated Blayne’s creation, but I immediately could picture Hayden Panettiere wearing it. Emily’s dress had a ruffle done all wrong and Blayne’s dress had an even larger, more eccentric ruffle, but it was done, not perfectly, but quite well. And no, not everyone could wear his design, but it was bold and fun. This challenge gave us a bit more insight into each designer, and I am still not quite sure who I’m rooting for; I'm vacillating between Kenley, Leanne, Suede, Terri, and Blayne at the moment. I think Blayne is my underdog.

Out for one of my drop-by, on-the-fly interviews – trusty Handycam in hand – I ducked into Mojo Boutique at 75 Congress St., Vaughan Mall, Portsmouth and had the pleasure of meeting owner Brandy Higgins of Rye.
I’d heard a rumor that Kelly Clarkson (the very first winner of “American Idol” in 2002) had been spotted shopping at the boutique, and well, being a stargazer myself, I just had to check it out. And then there was their fabulous collection of jeans I’d been hearing about.
When I asked Brandy the story behind the whole Kelly Clarkson visit, she said it was like a “10-minute tornado.”
“We were having like a birthday party in here for one of my girlfriends … It was nuts, just a lot of commotion was going on in shop while she was here. Lots of customers were here and I didn’t know it was Kelly Clarkson at the time, but my sales associate recognized her.”
Brandy said she didn’t speak to Clarkson or ask if it was her because she was just quietly shopping with two women and a baby, so Brandy was just trying to wrap things up quickly.
“I still wasn’t sure if it was her. She just didn’t look like you would see her on stage. In fact, that’s why no one was sure it was her until she paid and I looked at the credit card and, sure enough, it read ‘Kelly Clarkson.’ I still have the receipt.”
Brandy said that on her shopping spree Clarkson bought three pairs of shorts by Union, Peoples Liberation and Stitches, along with 10 tops made by Nation Ltd. and Coin 1804, a tank dress by Union, three leather Island belts and some sexy Honeydew undies.
As Clarkson was leaving Mojo, she stopped and looked back at Brandy and said, “Thanks y’all, I love your shop It’s really cute.”
OK stargazers, Mojo has much more than its newfound status as Kelly Clarkson’s fave Portsmouth boutique. When Brandy opened the store, her original concept was to have her customers feel good when they came in.
“I don’t care if they purchase anything. Really, I just want them to feel a good vibe here,” says Brandy.
I can see she has achieved just that with an atmosphere that is inviting, relaxing and nothing short of a really cool shop. The space has a New York art gallery feel to it, with the perfect lighting and custom artwork by Bob Herdlein of Concord, whose work is displayed on Mojo’s historic brick walls, along with incredible metalwork by J&J Steel & Stone.
Brandy’s welcoming vibe includes an inviting sitting area with couch and chairs – even the dressing room is magnificent, from the designer drapes and elegant chair to the exquisite mirror.
Brandy also hosts fashion shows for many occasions – men’s night out, introducing new lines and supporting charities such as Jacobs Ladder for women recovering from domestic violence.
The buzz about Mojo’s jeans collection was right on. If you’re looking for a great pair of jeans, Mojo is packing more than 400 pair with a variety of popular designer labels, along with a mix of chic tops (dressy or causal), jewelry and a line of sexy Honeydew undergarments that Brandy says are flying out the door (some in Kelly Clarkson’s bagful of Mojo).
How does Brandy buy for such a happening boutique? “I go with my instinct,” she says. “I just have a feel for what’s going on with fashion trends. It’s in the genes.” Did someone say jeans?
Get your Mojo on and head down to 75 Congress St. (Vaughan Mall) in downtown Portsmouth. And shoppers, stay tuned for details on a Nov. 15 Denim and Diamonds event to be hosted by Mojo and the Music Hall.

Updating your fall fashion is just part of the package, a new do is key, wheather you're just after an updated look, a complete change, or a simple way to enhance your best features.
Hairstyles are easier and more optional than ever these days. You’ll spend less money and time in the salon or in front of the mirror every morning, with the newest easy styles you can manage on your own. Check out these fabulous choices from fringe bangs, mushroom bob, blunt bob, pixie cut, layered bob, face framing layers and more.
Helpful hints: when deciding on a new hairstyle bring a picture to the salon and communicate to your stylist exactly what you want.
CHOOSING YOUR STYLE!
I have a heart shaped face. What tips do you have for me?
Decrease volume in the crown and at the side, ear areas. Adding curl and fullness to the chin area can help round out the look. Wisps on the jaw area or bangs can help give a wider rounder appearance. Avoid styles that mirror the heart shape.
I have a diamond shaped face. What tips do you have for me?
Decrease volume in the crown and at the side, ear areas. Adding curl and fullness to the chin area and just above the temples can help round out the look. Avoid styles that mirror the diamond shape.
I have a round face. What tips do you have for me?
Decrease the volume at the sides and ear area. Increase height and length should be beyond the chin or just above it. A side part works well. Keeping hair off the face at the cheek area is also recommended.
I have a square shaped face. What tips do you have for me?
Styles that round out your hair can decrease the appearance of a square face shape. Adding curl, angled or wispy bangs, and a few wisps on the cheek area will all help. A cut that allows for some height is also a good idea. Wear a side part as opposed to a center part. Avoid straight bangs and hanging hair.
How can I tell what shape my face is?
Pull your hair back off your face and tie it in a pony tail if possible or if it is short slick it back with water. Look straight in the mirror and trace the shape with a bar of soap or a crayon. Make sure to only trace your face following the hairline around your temples and forehead. This will give you a shape to compare to the following weeks tips. Oval, Round, Square, Diamond, or Heart.
Tips and Solutions for hair styling.....
Calming Bang Cowlicks
One of the most effective techniques for dealing with cowlicks at the bang area is to try drying the bangs forward with a vent or round brush so that the cowlick will be weighted down. Another technique is to have a hairstyle that incorporates the cowlick into the style thereby creating lift at the cowlick. Use styling tools to support either styling technique.
Curling Iron Styling
If you want a longer hold when you style with a curling iron try spraying hairspray BEFORE curling hair.
Styling With Hot Rollers
When using hot rollers spray dry hair first with a "working" hairspray.
Take your first section and comb it smooth, spray with hairspray and then twist the section before wrapping on the roller. This will give a spiral look to your curls. After rollers have cooled take out rollers and spray with a "working" hairspray. Finally turn head upside down and run your fingers through your hair.
Hair Splits At Crown Area
This problem can be treated by utilizing the correct styling tools and drying the problem area in the opposite direction to redirect the hair and give it more lift. Don't dry the hair flat to your head as it magnifies the split in the crown area. Instead use a vent brush to lift the hair at the scalp. If the hair is sticking up in the crown area and you have a short cut, try growing the hair longer. You should find that the weight of the hair will weigh down the crown cowlick.
Using a Blowdryer and Brush To Turn One Length Hair Under
After drying hair 70% dry use a round brush or rounded vent brush begin drying hair under. Use a working spray and spray on the ends of your hair while the brush is in a turned under postion in your hair. Aim the blow dryer at the hair that is in the brush for 15 seconds then let the hair cool for 5-10 seconds and then remove brush. You may have to turn the dryer off and put it on the counter until you get used to applying the technique. The key factor is spraying the hair, then using a blowdryer set to "hot" to act like a curling iron then allowing the hair to cool before removing the brush. Repeat until all the hair is dryed under. If you have a lot of hair try pinning the top layer up and working first on the underneath layer.
