Fantasy Focus: Rockies, Marlins provide offensive fireworks

rockieswin.jpg

It was certainly a happy holiday for fantasy owners lucky enough to have Colorado Rockies or Florida Marlins in their starting lineups on Friday night.

Well, unless you started pitchers Scott Olsen or Greg Reynolds.

The Rockies and Marlins combined for 35 runs and 43 hits in Colorado's 18-17 win. The Rockies rallied from a 13-4 deficit and won the game on Chris Iannetta's walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.

Now that's the Coors Field fantasy owners have grown to love over the years.

Some of the Rockies highlights:
* OF Ryan Spilborghs hit two of Colorado's six homers and went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs.
* 2B Clint Barmes went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, raising his average to .338.
* Matt Holliday, finally showing the power that made him an MVP candidate last season, went 3-for-6 with a pair of home runs, three runs scored and five RBIs.
* 3B Garrett Atkins was 5-for-6 with three runs scored, three RBIs and his 12th home run.
* The aforementioned Iannetta chipped in with a couple hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.
* All told, the first four hitters in the Rockies lineup went 16-for-22.

Some of the Marlins highlights:
* SS Hanley Ramirez had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. He had one of Florida's two homers.
* Jorge Cantu went 4-for-5 and scored four runs, but somehow had no RBIs in the game.
* 1B Mike Jacobs reached in all six plate appearances, getting four hits and two walks.
* OF Cody Ross went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a team-high five RBIs.

Now the ugly: Reynolds lasted just 1 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs and seven hits for the Rockies. Olsen, who entered the game with a 3.47 ERA, allowed nine runs and 11 hits in five innings. He is now winless in his last 11 starts.

Nothing like offensive fireworks on the Fourth of July!

The fine line
Cha Seung Baek, SP, Padres: W (2-4), 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K. Baek took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and turned in an impressive outing at Arizona. It was his first win in six starts since joining the San Diego rotation.
