Slingbox

Have you heard the hype about the Slingbox yet? This is the newest techno-craze which allows you to watch your television anywhere you have an internet connection. You hook it up with your high speed internet connection, and then use their viewer to remotely view and control your TV from any computer with access to the web.

The possibilities are endless. If you're a sports fan, can't you see yourself on those days that the Red Sox are playing an afternoon game and you're stuck at the office? You bring up your slingbox viewer and watch the game from work.

You're on vacation halfway around the world, but can't bear to miss that episode of Desperate Housewives. You are traveling, and want the local weather report. You want sports highlights from your local stations...all possible with the Slingbox.

Right now, they're about $250 dollars and available online (as shown here) or through Best Buy and Circuit City or other electronics stores.

ScanGauge 3-in-1 Auto Computer

scan_gauge.jpgOk, now this thing doesn't look like much, (In my opinion) until I saw that this thing can read your auto's onboard computer and give you a diagnotic of what it really means when your dreaded "Check Engine" light comes on.

We've all wondered that right? The best thing is, this thing can actually let you reset that light without going to the garage and spending a couple hundred dollars.

I think that alone is worth the $129.99 price. It plugs into your diagnostic OBD-II connector, which is found under the dash on 1996 and newer cars and light trucks. Some other details:

  • Reads engine trouble codes and can reset the "check engine" light
  • Trip computer that automatically tracks various elements of trip data
  • Expanded digital gauges (fuel economy, battery voltage, coolant temp., etc.)
  • No tools needed to install - plugs into the OBD-II diagnostic connector
  • Simple Menu driven operation
  • Backlight for night use
  • Batteries not required
  • Dimensions: 5.2" wide by 2.7" high by 2.1" deep

Available from ThinkGeek.

Electric Footwear Dryers

OK, so I found this on another Gadget blog (Gizmodo) but again given the fact that winter is rapidly approaching and soon we'll be trudging through the snow, and coming into the house with boots soaked all the way through to our socks, the following gadget just needed to be presented here. wishingfish1_1866_11616582.jpg

Available for $39.50 from Wishingfish.com, the makers of this product make the following promises about what these are going to do to change your life immediately and forever:

Reap the benefits of the Norwegians' vast experience with wet, cold feet. These mod-style shoe dryers (straight out of Scandinavia) dry any pair of shoes or boots from the inside out -- so you can use 'em on your cute leather flats, your stylin' suede sneakers, or your shaggy winter boots. The easy-to-clean aluminum gizmos work by safely sending out a steady flow of warm air, and use only 8 watts of power. Bonus: pamper yourself on frigid winter mornings by using the Dryers to get your shoes nice-'n-toasty! Sold as a pair, in red or blue (please let us choose for you). No adapter required.
Score! No adapter needed! You don't even have to fret about what color to get...they choose it for you! How can you go wrong?

Laptops For Everyone!

Everyone with $400, that is. 600dollarlaptop.jpg Last year, Wal*Mart made headlines by offering up a fairly decent Laptop for under $600. (The picture here is of the $600 model offered last year.) This year, they're looking to better that by a couple hundred dollars. The site Black Friday, which is dedicated to bringing you the best shopping deals of the day after Thanksgiving, tells us that this year, Wal*Mart is going to offer a $398 Laptop starting that day. News.com picked up the story and tells us a little more about the unit:

The laptop in the ad comes with a 2800+ Sempron processor from Advanced Micro Devices, 256MB of memory, a 40GB hard drive, a CD-RW/DVD drive and a 15-inch screen.
Sounds pretty good to me for under $400. Keep your eye out for this deal, if you don't see it in your local store, you can go to Walmart.com.
